How do I restore rusted nickle plating on a antique barber chair

My grandpa was a barber and we still have one of the chairs from his shop.

It is a 1912 Presidential barber chair with nickle plating (before

chrome). The porcelain and leather are all in great shape. The Nickle trim

is pitted with rust and turning green in some places. Also the brass tacks

securing the leather are tarnished almost black. What would be the easiest

and cheapest way to restore the shine on this chair? I am looking for a 
solution somewhere between re-plating it with nickle again and using 
Mexican Chrome (silver spray paint).
BTW: I am placing this in auto 
because of the similarity of restoring nickle plating and upholstery. />

Remove the Nickle parts and send them to a reputable plating

company, This chair is to valuable to ruin with spray paint!!! Proper

restoration of this chair could make it worth $3000 to $7500 dollars.

You're really not going to be able to make it look worth a hoot

without either paint or re-plating. If you paint you will need to steel

wool or sand the rust away first or treat it some Ospho to kill any rust

you can not get off. O'Reillys auto parts carries Ospho. Any good plating

shop can re-plate it and they generally aren't that expensive. You can
